Understanding the Mechanics

Ratatan Cobun army system explained

Cobun Army System

Chorus are mysterious fish-shaped creatures roaming Redo. When a Ratatan sings to them and grants a Medama (eye), they transform into loyal Cobun warriors. Your Cobun inherit traits from their Ratatan master and follow rhythm commands into battle. Managing your Cobun count is crucial - losing too many means a weaker army for the boss fight ahead.

Ratatan Melodium instrument system

Melodium & Skills

Each Ratatan wields a Melodium - a magical instrument that channels the power of song into battlefield commands. Beyond basic rhythm orders, the Melodium unleashes a unique Ratatan Skill: a powerful ability that can turn the tide of battle. Learning when to save your skill for a boss versus when to use it on a tough mob is a key strategic decision.

Ratatan multiplayer co-op gameplay

4-Player Co-op

Team up with up to 3 friends online for chaotic multiplayer mayhem. When all players hit FEVER mode simultaneously, the combined power is absolutely devastating. Coordinate your rhythm, share Cobun, and watch the screen explode with over 100 characters battling at once. Communication is key - call out FEVER windows!

Worlds of the Adventure

Ratatan Paraddean Sea pirate world

Paraddean Sea

Beautiful mermaids and azure waters... sounds like paradise, right? Not quite. Captain Barbatoid and his Swashbuckling Mantaneers patrol these waters aboard The Jolly Hermit. They claim to be "Nice Guys" but their actions say otherwise.

Ratatan Yeehawler Mountain desert canyon world

Yeehawler Mountain

Once home to a gold-carrying railcar crossing the arid wilderness, now overrun by Scorpswoosh Bill and his Stinger Diggers. Wagoon keeps raiding the town, stealing food, drink, and even maidens. Someone's gotta put a stop to this.

Ratatan deep green jungle world

Deep Green Jungles

Dense tropical forests teeming with wild Chorus and ancient ruins. The deeper you venture, the stronger the enemies become. But the rewards hidden within make every dangerous step worth it.

Common Questions

Is Ratatan related to Patapon?

Yes! Ratatan is the spiritual successor to Patapon, developed by the original Patapon team at Ratata Arts. It carries forward the core rhythm-command gameplay but adds roguelike progression, 4-player co-op, and a new world to explore. If you loved Patapon, you'll feel right at home with Ratatan's beat-based army commands.

When does Ratatan fully release?

Ratatan's full release is scheduled for July 16, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game was in Steam Early Access since September 18, 2025. The full version will include additional worlds, characters, weapons, skills, and expanded endgame content.

Do I need to be good at rhythm games?

Not at all! While a sense of rhythm helps, Ratatan is designed to be accessible. The beat indicators are clear, and you can learn the timing patterns relatively quickly. Start with the tutorial, practice the basic four-beat commands, and you'll get the hang of it. The game is more forgiving than it looks - even imperfect timing still moves your army, just less effectively.

Can I play Ratatan solo?

Absolutely. The entire game is fully playable solo. Multiplayer is optional but adds a lot of fun, especially when coordinating FEVER modes. Solo players can still experience all content - you just won't get the combined FEVER bonuses that come from syncing with teammates.

What are the system requirements?

Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Dual Core 2.4 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 950 / Radeon R7 360 / Intel HD Graphics 630, 10 GB storage.
Recommended: Windows 11 64-bit, Quad Core 2.4 GHz CPU, 16 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 5600 XT / Intel Arc A580, 10 GB storage. Online co-op requires Open or Moderate NAT type.

How does FEVER mode work?

FEVER mode activates when you maintain a perfect rhythm combo for a certain number of beats. Your Cobun start dancing, the music intensifies, and your attack power gets a massive boost. In multiplayer, if all players enter FEVER simultaneously, you trigger a combined FEVER that's even more powerful. The key is communication - call out when you're close to FEVER so teammates can sync up.
